The analysts are falling all over themselves trying to discern Trump’s tariff policy. The reason they’re having such a hard time is because there is no policy. Now that Republicans have surrendered their authority to Trump, he can levy whatever tariffs he wants without having to go to Congress. This means that for many a many a country, their best chance to avoid catastrophe may well be to swear fealty to Trump and beg him for mercy.
That, of course, is what this is all about. It’s about the humiliation, and nothing more. The cruelty is what gets him off, as it always has. Trump is living the dream – he can now have the whole world at his feet without even needing to get up out of his chair. There is no way he will change. It’s not about jobs and it never has been; it’s all about him, as is everything he does.
Why doesn’t the media get it? It’s as plain as the nose on your face. After all, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Trump’s tariff “policy” does no good for the world. And despite the bogus claims of his toadies, it does no good for the US – now or ever. Clearly, Trump read something about tariffs when he was in sixth grade and it stuck with him. It probably happened at around the same time he noticed how big Greenland looked on the map.
Trump’s tariffs are good for one thing and one thing only: to pander to the sick whims of a deeply troubled, insecure and ignorant man. Trump and his cronies are leading America down into a deep, dark abyss and the Republican Party is right there with him, cheering him on. We can only hope that the rest of the world will unite against them, and that those of us who truly love America will do whatever it takes to restore what’s left of America’s integrity by throwing each and every Republican out of office as far and as fast as possible.
Sadly, that may well be not nearly as fast, nor as far enough. They’ve already surrendered America’s world leadership role, crashed the stock market, blown up NATO, and are now threatening to cause a worldwide economic calamity. And they’ve not been in office even three months yet.
What will the next three months bring? Or the next four years? The prospect is unimaginable… but all too real. And when all is said and done, it’s quite likely that tariffs will be the least of it.
